How to play mobile Star Project [KOREAN] Edit
First off... (Do NOT follow the following- I already tried it out for you): Edit
PLEASE READ EVERYTHING FIRST! A little background info first. I just found out about this game today (Apr. 14. 2017) so forgive me if I have a few misconceptions lol. From what I know, Star Project is a hella old game that used to be a "manage/date a character"-style otome game. It mysteriously vanished from the internet (as in, the site it was hosted on just stopped hosting it) one day. Now, I've looked on the Google Play store and found two games: Star Project-Touya and Star Project-Ren . Clearly, these are very limited choices as compared to the original online game. However, if you dig a little deeper, you can find Star Project for Kakao .
To my knowledge, SPFK is still being updated (the Google Play page states that the last update was on Jan. 6. 2017). And after successfully downloading and playing the tutorial, it seems they hold special events (gotta check this though) not unlike other server games (i.e. special deals, limited offers, etc). So yeah, a lot more active than the site (haha).
If you download the VVVIC browser app, you can press the 'GAME' button on the bottom menu to be presented with links to the VVVIC games (Star Project, Spy Muse, etc.). (There are only three though lol). If you click the Star Project one (the first one), it leads to a Google Play page with the Star Project for Kakao app.
However, to my knowledge, this game is region-locked to Korea. That means you can't play without a Korean phone (unless you wanna find some complicated method around that). Anyway, so scratch that, that's pretty much useless then.
Instead, you want to download an APK of the game from online, rather than an appstore.
1. Find an APK for 'Star Project for Kakao'. Edit
In my very unprofessional choice of words, an APK file is just basically the file name for an Android app. So you can download an APK and install it onto your device even if the app itself isn't on your appstore.
The APK I chose is from here . Just find the download link and click it. You should do this step directly on the device you want to install the game on. Otherwise, you have to go through tedious file transfers from device to device haha.
Once you have the APK file, just open it by clicking it. Go on your downloads folder from your phone and click it. You should be prompted to install it. Confirm the installation and wait for it to install itself. There may be an issue where there's an alert saying that you can't download because your phone doesn't allow installations other than apps from the appstore. If so, just go into your settings and allow your phone to install apps from unknown sources.
2. Run the app! Edit
From this point on, it's pretty simple. After the installation, the app is now on your phone! By default, a shortcut should appear on your homescreen, but if it doesn't, just go into your applications list and click it. You MUST have a Kakao account to play, as it's directly linked to your game. It's easy to make one-- just install the Kakao messaging app and make an account (with both the email and phone number just to be safe).
If my memory serves well, there's like, 6 character routes you can choose (including this "special" character I assume you have to pay for). I think they are Yoon, Ren, Miyoo, Ian (?), and Bin.
The first few steps of the game are a tutorial. But even before that, you have to decide on a username and an agency name (in that order). The username has a maximum of 6 characters and must be unique (there can be no duplicate usernames). The agency name is also maxed at 6 characters but it can be anything you want. They will prompt you with an arrow to choose a schedule. By clicking this, you will see the pictures of all the available characters side by side.
From this screen, you can choose which character's route you want to go on (I chose Miyoo!).
I don't think you can go back after selecting one of them, so be careful. Once you choose, you will go and meet the character. An action choice will appear to you. It just says "Talk to" so click it. Then, you two will talk about you "if you're going to debut, you need a stage name". They'll usually say something along the lines of "Oh, you're going to choose one for me?" And the screen will prompt you to make a stage name for the character. This can be any name you choose, but the character will be referred to as "[Name choice]" for the rest of the game (I think).
After this, there's just the tutorial and such.
After the tutorial is over (you will receive a pop-up), you will be able to go back to the character selection screen and "manage" all of the characters. You do not have to choose one character route; all characters are available to play after the tutorial.
Google Translate has this handy-dandy feature that lets you scan something for words in a certain language! After you take a picture of the screen, you can highlight the phrases you don't know and they'll be translated! Of course, Google Translate is pretty iffy in terms of accuracy but this method is helpful if you have two devices (one with a camera) and if you can speak "Google Translate" Korean.
With the APK method, I don't think that the game will be automatically updated. But, just from intuition, I think it would be fine to delete the app and reinstall it if a newer APK version comes out. As long as you log in from the same Kakao account, your data should be saved. But don't take my word for it! I'm just as much a newbie as you are!
Also, some things to keep in mind...
- I do NOT know how to install this on iOS. Please don't ask, I don't have an iPhone or any Apple mobile devices.
- This game is ENTIRELY in Korean (it's region-locked for a reason). I may translate the main page (the dashboard..?) in the future if enough people ask for it, but I will NOT translate the whole thing.
- I am NOT an official... whatever for the game! This is just a method I found works for me. So please don't ask me anything regarding updates or glitches within the game.
